This year Fall Flag Rugby will also be open to 5th and 6th graders. There are two reasons for the change. First, there is currently no tackle sevens in the fall, so last year’s flag players will have nowhere to play until the Spring. Second, Massachusetts Youth Rugby hosts 4-5 summer tournaments every year, and this year we plan to bring some teams down to play. Tackle rugby doesn’t start until 7th grade in Massachusetts, so any 5th and 6th graders who go down will be playing flag. Fall flag will give the older kids a chance to reacquaint themselves with the game, as well as an opportunity to take a leadership role with with the younger players.

All participants are required to have a current membership with USA Youth & High School Rugby. USAY&HS registration will be required with your program registration. The annual USAY&HS fee for K-4 flag rugby players is an additional $10 paid once per membership year (starts September 1). The 5th and 6th graders will be registered as junior players. The cost is higher (about $24), but it will cover their USAY&HS dues for tackle sevens this spring.

Flag Rugby participants will have the option to purchase a tee-shirt ($5) and a rugby ball ($5). Returning players already have both of those, but are welcome to purchase another shirt or ball if they wish. It’s the same shirt as the one kids got last spring.

Build confidence and get out for some fun! Learn about rugby in a safe and welcoming environment! The purpose of the league is to give young girls & boys an opportunity to learn to play Rugby in a fun and local environment. Practices will be on Sunday mornings at 9 am at the NH Rugby Center, 3 Cold Springs Road, Dover. This season will start September 8th and conclude October 27th with Columbus Day weekend off.
